Our Reading Garden Gets Updated
Halifax resident A.J. LaGambina, with the help of many volunteers, donors, the Board of LIbrary Trustees, and the Friends of the Holmes Public Library, has updated the landscaping of the Ruth V. Perkins Reading Garden and adding a walkway and pergola as his Eagle Scout project this summer.
AJ has raised funds, attended meetings, planned and organized the entire project. In addition to creating a shady reading spot and tidying up the Reading Garden, AJ spruced up the landscaping in front of the library's big bay window.
Check out these photos from June 2013 of the work in progress.
The Ruth V. Perkins Reading Garden
Ruth was an individual whose many gifts and talents have enriched our community in so many ways. A long-time Halifax resident, Ruth personified the term "Public Servant". She was a Library Trustee from 1969-1972; Town Historian from 1980-1985; a Republican Election Worker from 1994-1995; and served on the Halifax 250th Birthday Committee from 1980-1984. In addition to this volunteer/community service, she served the community as Town Clerk and Town Treasurer from 1972-1993 when she retired. Through her selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals, Ruth helped build, strengthen, and enrich our community.
